- “The Papercut Girls”- Papercutting is an art form founded in China where intricate designs are cut from delicate tissue paper.
- Dai Dance
- “KanDing Love Song” is a well known Tibetan song which has survived many ages. High spirited, this dance uses a modern version of the song. The audience is encouraged to clap to the rhythm.
- This playful and somewhat mischievous dance uses the concept of traditional “papercuts”- delicate patterns or dolls cut from very thin tissue paper. It comes from a child’s story where young girls who where were supposed to cut good luck symbols from the lucky red paper grew bored and began cutting out dolls. They were scolded for not obeying. However, at night, the dolls from the papercuts came alive and began playing with their creators.
- Another dance from the Dai people of China. This dance is usually performed in a pool of shallow water. During the finale of the dance the performers would splash water onto the audience for good luck. This is traced back to the water splashing holiday of Southeast Asia where it is bad luck not to be splashed with a bucket of water. It is said the water is to wash away the bad luck of the previous year. Due to inconvenience, our dancers do not splash water onto our audience. Rest assured :).
- Fan Dance. song: “Four Seasons” “四季”
